What it does and how it makes money

French digital advertising company that shows personalised ads based on each person's browsing across websites and apps, and offers online retailers a platform to sell advertising on their own sites (retail media).

It charges advertisers and retailers for the ads it shows and for using its advertising platforms. [1]

What data it collects about you

According to Criteo, it uses cookies and identifiers to recognise your browser or device and link it to the data it holds, and it may combine hashed email addresses with other identifiers to show tailored ads. [2]

How it turns your data into money

Criteo sets a cookie with its own identifier (UID) in your browser and uses mobile advertising IDs, exchange-platform identifiers and hashed CRM data supplied by advertisers (email, phone, loyalty card). It records the products you viewed, put in your cart or bought on the sites of brands and retailers using its technology, without your name. It then bids in programmatic auctions to show you ads on 'publisher' sites and shares data with advertisers, SSPs and measurement partners. If you look at sneakers in an online store that is a Criteo client, you will see that model advertised on other sites you visit. [3]

Where it is incorporated

Criteo S.A., an online advertising company founded in Paris in 2005 and listed on Nasdaq (CRTO). On July 29, 2026 it converted, without being dissolved, from a French société anonyme into a société anonyme governed by Luxembourg law, with principal offices at 5 Place de la Gare, L-1616 Luxembourg (formerly 32 Rue Blanche, Paris); it replaced its ADSs with ordinary shares listed directly on Nasdaq and expects to move to the New York Stock Exchange. [4]

Taxes and low-tax countries

Shareholders approved on February 27, 2026 the transfer of the registered office from France to Luxembourg, completed on July 29, 2026, as a step toward a possible later redomiciliation to the U.S. through a merger into a newly incorporated subsidiary. The company justifies it by possible inclusion in U.S. indices, more flexibility for share buybacks and the removal of ADSs; its announcements do not mention tax advantages and only list 'costs or taxes related to the transaction' as a risk. Les Echos called the move an 'exile'. [5]
