COMPANY PROFILE

Magnite

Headquarters: New York, United States · Founded: 2007 · Listed: NASDAQ: MGNI

What it does and how it makes money

Magnite provides technology to automate the buying and selling of digital advertising: it helps publishers, connected TV (CTV) channels and other media sell their ad space to advertisers, agencies and demand-side platforms (DSPs). It was formed in 2020 by the merger of Rubicon Project and Telaria.

It generally charges a percentage of the ad spend that runs through its platform, plus fixed fees for some services such as ad serving. [1]

What data it collects about you

According to its platform cookie policy, it collects through cookies, pixels and SDKs the IP address and other device identifiers, mobile advertising IDs (IDFA, Google Advertising ID), browsing and app activity, and hashed email addresses. It uses them for advertising, analytics and measurement, including tracking and targeting the interests of users of its clients' sites. [2]

How it turns your data into money

Magnite works for the sites and apps that sell ad space: when a page loads, it auctions that space among buyers and keeps a percentage of the ad spend that runs through its platform. According to its advertising platform privacy policy, it automatically collects your IP address, cookie data and other device identifiers, the page you visited before, an approximate location (country or city from the IP) and, only with your consent, precise location within a radius of 1,850 feet or less. It uses this to guide decisions on buying and selling ad space, create audience segments, cap how often you see the same ad and assess ad effectiveness; it shares it with its clients (publishers and buyers), affiliates, vendors and partners such as third-party advertising platforms. Its own 'cookie syncing' example: if publisher A sets a cookie on your device with ID 12345 and advertiser B sets another with ID 67890, both parties can link the two IDs to the same device. It keeps the data for up to 90 days before anonymizing and aggregating it into reports. [3]

Where it is incorporated

Magnite, Inc. is a Delaware corporation with principal executive offices at 1250 Broadway, 9th Floor, New York, listed on the Nasdaq Global Select Market (MGNI). Its FY2025 10-K describes it as the world's largest independent omni-channel sell-side advertising platform (SSP); in September 2025 it completed the acquisition of Streamr.ai, Inc. [1]

Taxes and low-tax countries

Its FY2024 10-K subsidiaries exhibit lists 27 entities without stating jurisdictions, including Magnite Netherlands B.V., Magnite Singapore Pte Ltd., Magnite SARL, Magnite Ltd, Magnite Holdings Pty Ltd, Telaria SDN. BHD., SpotX Limited and several Rubicon Project entities. Its FY2025 10-K warns that the use of its net operating losses and tax credit carryforwards may be subject to limitations. [4]

Competition and monopoly

Magnite has not been the subject of a competition finding but a plaintiff: on September 16, 2025 it announced a lawsuit against Google in the US District Court for the Eastern District of Virginia, seeking damages over what it describes as Google's exclusionary scheme to lock publishers into its ad server and preference its own exchange. It relies on that court's April 2025 ruling that Google willfully engaged in a series of anticompetitive acts to acquire and maintain monopoly power in the ad server and ad exchange markets. [5]
