How it turns your data into money
Pinterest lives on advertising: its 10-K says substantially all of its revenue comes from third-party advertising, and that advertisers can target specific groups of users based on interests, demographics and search keywords. According to its privacy policy, it uses your activity (which Pins you click on, terms you search for, boards you create) to make inferences about your preferences, receives from advertisers information about your visits to their sites or purchases you made, and customizes ads by identifying your interests based on your onsite and offsite activities. Its own example: if you visit websites that sell electric guitars, it may suggest guitar Pins to you. It also states that it discloses to third parties such as Facebook Ads and Google Marketing Platform data like cookie IDs, your IP address or a hashed version of your email address. To measure whether ads work it offers advertisers tools such as its Conversions API and data clean rooms. [3]
Where it is incorporated
